Debate - Is Social Media more harmful than Beneficial to society
On September 19, 2024, the College of Engineering and Rural Technology (CERT Meerut) hosted an insightful talkathon on the topic "Is Social Media More Harmful Than Beneficial to Society?" This engaging event brought together students and faculty to critically analyze the multifaceted impact of social media on contemporary society.
The session explored the benefits of social media, with speakers highlighting its ability to foster meaningful connections, offer networking opportunities, and amplify the voices of marginalized communities. Many participants underscored its potential as a powerful tool for driving social change and raising awareness about important issues.
On the other hand, the discussion also shed light on significant concerns surrounding social media, such as its role in spreading misinformation, deepening societal divisions, and affecting mental well-being. Speakers stressed the need for enhanced digital literacy and encouraged responsible usage of social platforms to mitigate these challenges.
“Students actively participated in the discussion, sharing their personal experiences and perspectives on how social media influences their lives. Their contributions enriched the dialogue, fostering a dynamic and thought-provoking exchange of ideas.”
The event received overwhelming positive feedback from attendees, who left with a deeper understanding of the complexities and dualities of social media's role in modern society. This talkathon reflects CERT Meerut's commitment to nurturing critical thinking and meaningful dialogue about societal issues that impact the future of its students.
